As a Muslim Institute, as happens in most areas, there are constantly people seeking assistance, be it financially, in the form of clothing or food. It is the duty of Muslims to assist the underprivileged sectors of the community, whether Muslim or not. Our “Welfare Department” is headed by Appa Layla, who teached at the Newclare Madressa for more then 30 years. She is actively involved in the community and is well known and trusted by the community members.

The discharge of all Zakaah monies and Items is supervised by Moulana Ismail, who currently teaches at Lenasia Muslim School.

With this in mind, we humbly seek your help in this effort of poverty-alleviation. May Allah accept our/your efforts in His Cause and reward you abundantly in the Aakhira, Insha-Allah.

On a monthly basis we try and assist 118 needy families from surrounding areas plus 7 families from Soweto with food parcels. That is a total of 125 Muslim Families. 95 Percent of the Zakaat recipients are Pensioners and Widowers.

Examples of Food Parcel Requirements:

1)125 x R 250-00 = R 31250-00

2)125 x R 300-00 = R 37500-00

This is examples for food parcels worth R 250-00 and R 300-00. Clearly the cost of providing needy families with these parcels is high even though a hamper might be worth R 250-00 or R 300-00.

To Date The Jamaat has:

  • Delivered groceries and clothing parcels to deserving and needy Muslims as well as Non-Muslims in Albertville and the surrounding areas and even as far as Lydenburg Uloom, Dannhauser and Morgenzon.
  • Has formed and maintained fruitful relationships with other Islamic Organizations and Institutes, such as Al-Aqsa Foundation to which we contribute monthly towards their ORPHAN-SPONSORSHIP program.
  • Note: The ward councilor for the Albertville area, Mr Steve Kotze, pledged his eagerness to assist and work in conjunction with Albertville Muslim Jamaat regarding charitable drives in the future.
  • Albertville Muslim Jamaat humbly pleads with our Muslim brothers and sister’s generous support to assist the needy.
